Oculus New York City WTC Transportation Hub
American flag hanging inside the empty main hall of the new Oculus New York City, the WTC Transportation Hub – PATH station. The World Trade Center Transportation Hub is the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s name for the new PATH in Lower Manhattan, New York City, USA. In march 2016 the World Trade Center Transportation Hub in Lower Manhattan officially opened to the public. The new hub replaces the PATH train station that was destroyed during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Over 12 years in making and construction and costs of 4 billion US$ in public money, the new train station is for some a symbol of both ‘governmental waste’ and ‘architectural excess’. The center is the Oculus glass-and-steel structure designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava.
