...by selling stock photos over microstock sites, the sellers (or better 'the contributers') unfortunatly never know what happens later with their images. Are they used as cd covers, as titles in magazins, for e-mail newsletters, website designs, book covers, edititorial or..... whatever....but sometimes you get a feedback, e.g. letters from the buyers. more often you get an email telling you 'look there i found your image on....' . and from time to time you find your images by yourself just by chance. here are some examples of photos from my istockphoto portfolio, where i discovered the final usage.
During a short trip together with a friend through north italy, we discovered 'accidently' an approx. 4 meter high commercial with my son as the coverboy in the fashion district of milano. I thought first, we both had too much red wine, but it was simply true...without knowing anything we saw my 6 year young son hanging on the wall as the campaign boy for the milano children's clothing store 'Yo Vi'...unbelievable, but a true microstock story.
So above you see the original photo of my son from my istockphoto portfolio. Just click on it to jump into the shot in my iStockphoto portfolio.
Here are some more of images out of my portfolio I found 'accidently' by pure luck...
Something very similar happend during a holiday in Iceland. I just walked out the airport gate of Reykjavic and found a picture I shot on the frontpage cover of the shopping magazine 'Shop Reykjavic 2007'. There were really dozens of those 'Shop Reykjavic' magazins lying around in the airport and ... unbelievable, but true.. 'i shot the cover'... hmm.. the funny thing is that this picture was taken in london, but who cares... This was a really perfect motivation to start taking photos during my holidays in Iceland. On the above right you see the original photo. Nearly no modifications were made for the cover on 'Shop Reykjavic' Magazine.
The Cover Photo of the Czech DIGIfoto Magazine. Together with the Original Photo on the right. I received that info through a sitemail in istockphoto.
Here you see two different usages of the same photo from a model shooting in Austin, Texas. The left one is a concert poster for 'MOGUAI' and other electro bands in the 'spindler' klatt in Berlin. The shot in the middle is for the 'DENAWTI' US fashion label. On the very right you see the original shot.
My wide angle camel portrait was found on an travel brochure for egypt ....cool.... and thanks to thomas p. (ratstuben) for sending me the brochure. but: i actually took the picture of this camel in tunisia in the sahara desert. who cares.![]()
A german travel broschure cover for the nature park 'Steinhuder Meer'
includes a crop of my son smiling under a towel at a hotel pool in
tunisia....funny.
Here is an editorial use of jose from barcelona in the german online newspaper sueddeutsche.de.
While i was looking for the specs of the new Canon 1Ds MK III camera on the german canon.de website, i stumbled over an animated gif commercial which includes my skateboarder shot i took this summer in austin, texas.
www.gernegross.com - the black and white version of my son proudly posing with his new tattoo is found on another kids fashion online store website.
I will add more discoveries of my portfolio in action in the next weeks. so if you are interested just subscribe to the rss feed of my blog.
