I will be this time at the Photokina Cologne 2008 to get an impression and first view on the new products the camera manufacturers announced during the last days in their pre-photokina press releases. The specifications of the new Canon 5D Mark II really sound promising. A camera with 21.1 Megapixel, ISO 100-6400 (Expansion to ISO 50-25600) for approx. 2700 US$ – really cool. The main point for me to decide if I get one of those Canon 5D Mark II bodies as a second camera (I shoot with the 1Ds Mark III as of today) is the new introduced 1080p HD video functionality. If this new Canon 5D Mark II DSLR camera can produce good quality Video Footage Clips in 1080p, i think it will change a lot in the whole stock video footage market as photographers might start taking videoclips in the near future. An interesting development. I`m more then curious about what will be next in a future Canon 1Ds Mark IV. But we all have to wait a while for this next 1Ds step I guess.

There are also big news from other brands. Especially the new Leica S System announcement sound phantastic. 37 Mega Pixel, just a bit less than the hasselblad H3D-II 39, together with a new lens system. Wow. But: I`m sure the price of this Leica DSLR monster will calm me down very quick…

Finally I keep dreaming for an Hasselblad H3D II 50 MPixel….
