It’ now close six months ago since the last update of Sold & Found on my photoblog.

I got again emails and sitemails (in istockphoto) that people found some of my images in use. So again: thanks for letting me know. And thanks to all people sending me prints, copies etc.

Episode IV Mlenny Porfolio in Action Summer 2008:

So here are the new sold & found images from my istock portfolio:

I really was surprised when Adobe announced the public beta of lightroom 2.0. As I work a lot with the combination adobe photoshop cs 3 & lightroom 1.41 i’d liked to try out this beta version.. so I went to the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 Learning Center. And what ??? I first thought I have a cache problem in my browser when I discovered 4 Images it made on the homepage of the Adobe Photoshop Learning Center Lightroom 2.0… but it was true. Out of a total of five images their designers choosed four images from my istockphoto portfolio. wow. You can see the screenshot above. Just click on the thumbs if you like to enlarge them. Below are the original images from my portfolio.

Meanwhile Adobe Lightroom 2.0 is released. And even after the release (and redesign/update of the learning center content) there is still one image left :-) one I image from my trip to the Sahara Desert. It`s really funny be surprised by such discoveries.

Transcend, the well-known Memory Card Manufacturer from Taipei, used an image of a couple as a flyer/folder whitch was included in their new 16 GB CF card. Thanks Thomas (!) for sending me the Transcend 16 GB brochure and package! But why didn`t you leave the 16GB in the letter? :-)

Börse Online is a well-known weekly Economy/Stock magazin in Germany. In an article about Wind Power Companies & Alternative Energy Investments they used one of my wind turbine images.

A shot from the hey jo club, london was used in a party – event community.

A portrait of two young women from barcelona made it onto this advertising banner in usa. Thanks for mailing me this image!

This fairy-tale portrait was used as the cover image of the american Afra Victoria Magazin on their June/July 2008 Issue.

Lightroomkillertips, the lightroom tips & tricks blog from Matt Kloskowski, used my ‘endless road’ shot from nambia. Check out his blog it`s worth reading!

One shot from Namibia was used by Yahoo Travel. This time not an endless road. The shot (above , right) of the Skeleton Coast in West Namibia was taken out of a cessna airplane.

The Indian Chief Portrait, which was shot in Austin, Texas – made it onto the Cover of the Western Group Tour Magazine in the Spring 2008 Issue.

I discovered another CD Cover from the shooting session i had in the Hey Jo Club in London, UK. It was used for the CD Sampler Electronic House Sessions Volume 2.

This Fashion shot (on the right) was used on the website of ‘Les Cours Mont-Royal‘. The famous Montreal Fashion Boutique Shopping Center in Canada.

Strobbe is a belgian distributer of office accessoires. I shot the image of a young woman running along a moving stairway in the barcelone airport. It’s used on their website and also as the cover of their Strobbe Order Catalog 2008/2009.

KSL.com, Utah’s News and Information Plattform used one of my images of a screaming business man (original on the right) as an online banner to promote their Online Education Center.

The image on the right was shot in Ljubljana. The Group Shot of those women was used from the company X4 Tech. I found it included in their products X4-Tech Zelo T10 on Amazon.de.

One of my car details was used as the cover for the traditional Mayer Brown Event at INTA 2008 Invitation Cards. The Mayer Brown LLC (Intellectual Property Group) event took place in the ‘Meilenwerk Berlin‘.

I guess I`m one of the last photographers who discovered Flickr. It`s really a nice place to have a central photo server, and the possibilities of Flickr are simply amazing. If you are interesed you can find my Flickr Photo Stream here: Mlenny Flickr Photostream .I also made two different kind of slideshows from the flickr content. You can see them here: Mlenny Flickr Slide Show or here (a more animated version): Mlenny Porfolio Slideshow. Another nice slideshow solution to show parts of a Flickr Portfolio can you see here: Click here to see a photo slideshow of some recent uploads

So stay tuned. I`m right now just at the beginning to learn the possibilies of flickr and the flickr API.

Underwater Photography. I like this new perspective of weightlessness.

It`s summer, so time to enter the swimming pool. There I ‘played’ around with that topic. As Underwater Housings for DSLR’s are too expensive, I tried out the Canon G9 Compact Camera together with the underwater housing from Canon. As far as I know, one of the cheapest solutions to get good results at 12.1 MPixel in Underwater Photography. So here are the fresh first shots it took with the Canon G9.

Underwater:

I will soon include some more new images from the Canon G9 here. The images below are shot with my Canon 1Ds MK III. A Compact Canon G9 is simply not fast enough for such ‘fast’ images. So don`t make wrong conclusions of the G9`s speed :-)

Mountain Bike & Dirt Bike Series:

And here you see more images from the lifestyle & beach shots made in malta two weeks ago:

Beach Girls & Beach Boys:

People, Men and Women:

Portraits, Mixed Scenes:

History & Fairy Tales: Pirates & Malta Knight Hospitallers & the Princess:

On 19th August is again the Punktum Day on istockphoto. I love the idea behind that last year introduced day to celebrate creativity.

A short description of the Punctum Day from istockphoto.

“What the heck is Punctum Day?
Punctum Day, August 19, was declared in 2007 by iStockphoto as a special day to celebrate creative excellence. The day holds dual significance for iStock because it was August 19, 1839, that Louis Daguerre first introduced an early type of photograph, the Daguerreotype, to the world and it is also the birthday of Jeff Howe, Wired magazine writer, who introduced the staff at iStock HQ to the meaning of punctum.”

I think that sometimes creativity needs to be explained, even when ‘images are telling more then 1000 words’. I guess in the last 12 months there where over 1 mio. files uploaded to istockphoto. Overlooking those files is simply impossible. I guess there are more then 10.000 image-pearls i would not even see here within the flood of approx. 1 mio new files which came into istockphoto within the last 12 months.

The result might be that ‘one of the usual suspects’ will win this istock contest. One image that had be IOTW (Image of the week) or FIOTW (Free Image of the week). One image that is in the Top Picks Lists of the early voted punktum images, or on the ‘Most Popular Files‘ List…. Instead of having the contributers go through 1 mio files, why is it not possible that inspectors nominate e.g. 1000 images? Afterwards let the istock community make the final decision. The inspectors see much more images then every contributer or buyer just because of their job.

Another solution might be that a contributer can nominate one of his own files. It would make a lot of sense to allow a kind of caption or punktum description to explain, give background or context to the image he`d like to nominate.

Anyway. The idea of punktum day made me reflect about my own portfolio. Which one out of the images I took the last 12months is my personal personal favourite. After thinking a lot, i finally found it. It`s not studio, stock, beauty, lifestyle, fashion, landscape. It`s something private. I knew when i uploaded this image that it will never be a ‘flamer’. but it simply has to be here on istock, my exclusive and loved photo-plattform and community.

So here it is, my favourite out of my portfolio within the last 12 months:

Caption:

This image shows my son finn walking towards the leaving airplane on the airport of windhoek in namibia. This image is not an edited snap it might look like on the first view. It`s a pure concept shot i had long time ago in my mind. Actually it`s a kind of selfportrait transported through my son Finn. (Background: Most people especially my parents say that my son looks identical like I looked when I was younger).

I think this image transports the feelings I have everytime when i travel on my own and i had to leave the places i have visited. Sometimes loney and slighty sad.. Behind every departure, every end, I feel a kind of sadness, you`re leaving friends, places, new people you met and might never see again. But all the memories I have in my “suitcase” together with me remain bright and colorful. And I`m carrying those memories with me, even if they are sometimes heavy,.

That is the reason why I processed the image completly desaturated, except of the suitcase my son carries with him towards the leaving airplane on this empty airport.

‘lonely farwell’ is definately my favourite shot I made during the last 12 months.

So thanks for the Punktum Idea istock! You made me rethinking and reviewing the images I took within the last 12 months.
